Building a Scalable Sports Network Platform
How My Project Solution rebuilt Pickup Portal as a modern Laravel application connecting players, coaches, and organizations through advanced search, messaging, and mobile apps.
Project Overview
Pickup Portal is a platform designed to connect players, coaches, and organizations looking for pickup opportunities, tournaments, and team connections across youth and amateur sports.
As the platform grew, the original system began to show limitations in performance, scalability, and feature flexibility. The Pickup Portal team partnered with My Project Solution (MPS) to design and develop a modern application platform capable of supporting long-term growth, new sports, and a large user base.
The result is Pickup Portal 2.0 — a custom web application and mobile platform designed to support sports organizations, teams, coaches, and players with powerful discovery and communication tools.
The Challenge
The original platform needed significant upgrades to support the vision of Pickup Portal as a multi-sport discovery network.
Key challenges included:

• Limited flexibility for adding new sports or organizations
• Messaging and communication between players and coaches
• Lack of advanced search and saved search notifications
• Need for scalable architecture capable of supporting mobile apps
• Need to support branded portals for individual organizations
